Kit component arithmetic

Hardware Kit Quantity Checker

Check one approved kit configuration at a time. Give each part its own line with its finish or revision; a different kit configuration needs its own calculation.

Enter the kit configuration and count → enter parts, spares and prepared quantities → review shortages or excesses. No order is generated.

Enter your records

Required inputs must be complete. Enter 0 only when zero is deliberate; missing values remain unresolved. Use non-confidential references only.

Worked example

An importer checks the hardware prepared for 120 shower enclosure kits of one approved configuration before the cartons are packed.

Example figures are invented for illustration. They are not product data, prices or a quotation.

LOCAL WORKSHEET — entered data only

Configuration: Enclosure kit K1, rev B; kits: 120

Hinge H-100 | Brushed nickel: required 246; prepared 246; count matches.

Handle HD-20 | Brushed nickel: required 125; prepared 120; shortage 5.

Screw SC-8 | Stainless, rev A: required 1000; prepared 1000; count matches.

No product, inspection, installation, stock or delivery approval is generated.

How to read it

For Handle HD-20, required units = 120 kits x 1 unit per kit + 5 spares = 125, but only 120 are prepared, so the tool reports a shortage of 5. Hinge H-100 (246) and Screw SC-8 (1000) match their requirements. The buyer should fix the handle count or the spare entry in the source list; matching counts say nothing about whether the parts fit the enclosure.

How the count works

For each part and variant, required units = number of kits × units per kit + extra spares. Units prepared minus units required gives the difference: a negative number is a shortage, and a positive one is excess against this list, not permission to change the order.

Spares are your decision

No spare percentage is supplied. Enter 0 only when no extra units are intended. Counts must be whole numbers, 0 or more. A repeated part-and-variant line is rejected, so a duplicate can’t be added to the requirement by accident.

A correct count is not a compatible kit

The arithmetic doesn’t show that a hinge, seal, fastener or bracket fits the enclosure. Work from an approved component list and keep the kit revision with the copied result. Fit and load questions belong with the responsible supplier.

Kit component arithmetic questions

Does the tool choose a spare-parts percentage?

No. Enter any extra spares yourself, as units.

Can two kit configurations share one calculation?

No. Check each approved configuration separately.

Why is a repeated part-and-variant line rejected?

It could count the same component twice. Correct the source list, then recalculate.

Does zero shortage mean the hardware fits?

No. It only compares the quantities entered.

Can I enter fractions of a part?

No. The worksheet counts whole units only.
