Carton arithmetic
Packing Volume and Gross Weight Calculator
Enter one line per carton type, using the outside dimensions of the packed carton. The calculator converts to meters and kilograms, totals the complete lines and lists the incomplete ones. It doesn’t predict container fit, pallet layouts, freight charges or payload limits.
Enter records → review differences or arithmetic → resolve missing evidence. No order or approval is generated.
Enter your records
Every field is required for a complete record. Enter 0 only when zero is deliberate; missing values remain unresolved. Use non-confidential references only.
Record fields
- Carton or packing reference
- Outside length
- Outside width
- Outside height
- Dimension unit

Worked example
An importer totals the packed volume and gross weight of three carton types for a hotel vanity and shower hardware order.
Example figures are invented for illustration. They are not product data, prices or a quotation.
Example inputs
| Carton or packing reference | Outside length | Outside width | Outside height | Dimension unit | Number of cartons (whole number) | Gross weight per carton | Weight unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carton A vanity | 90 | 55 | 25 | cm | 40 | 38 | kg |
| Carton B glass panel | 1200 | 400 | 150 | mm | 60 | 22 | kg |
| Carton C faucet set | 20 | 12 | 8 | in | 120 | 6 | lb |

How to read it
Line 1 is 90 x 55 x 25 cm per carton times 40 cartons, which the tool reports as 4.95 m³, and 38 kg x 40 cartons is 1520 kg gross. Lines 2 and 3 are converted from mm and in/lb the same way. The complete-line totals are 13.04558 m³ and 3166.586506 kg gross, which are carton arithmetic only and not a container-fit result.
Measure the packed carton, not the product
Use the outside dimensions of the actual packed carton, including all the packaging on that line. Product dimensions are not packing dimensions. Give each carton type its own line: the count multiplies one identical carton, not a mixed shipment.
How the numbers are calculated
Each line is length × width × height × number of cartons, with dimensions converted to meters first: centimeters ÷ 100, millimeters ÷ 1,000, inches × 0.0254. Pounds convert to kilograms at 0.45359237. Gross weight is the weight per carton × number of cartons. Results are rounded only for display.
Total volume is not a loading plan
Adding carton volumes doesn’t show that the cartons fit through a container door or can be stacked safely. Pallets, gaps, handling limits, orientation and the actual equipment need a separate loading review. If any line is incomplete, the totals are labeled PARTIAL and must not be used as a shipment declaration.
Carton arithmetic questions
Should I enter product dimensions or carton dimensions?
The outside dimensions of the actual packed carton.
Can one line cover different carton sizes?
No. Add a separate line for each packing type.
Does the total volume prove the shipment fits a container?
No. Dimensions, access, loading and transport limits need a separate review.
Is a missing weight treated as zero?
No. The line stays incomplete and is left out of the totals, which are then marked PARTIAL.
Does the calculator estimate freight charges?
No. Ask for a current freight quotation separately.
Discuss the reviewed requirement
Use the result to identify questions for WNS Global. Offered products, specifications and commercial conditions still require separate confirmation.
