From use statement to quotation
Can an indoor vanity-top material be used outdoors?
Only if the maker of that exact product says so in writing. The maker documents used here answer differently for different named ranges.
Cambria’s specification sheet says Cambria Product is not approved for outdoor use. The table lists each maker’s own wording, paraphrased.
| Named product | What its maker says |
|---|---|
| Silestone (Cosentino) | Not recommended for outdoor use; UV rays can damage the surface. |
| Cambria | Not approved for outdoor use. |
| Caesarstone Outdoor Collection | Described as built for sun, rain and snow. |
| Dekton (Cosentino) | Described as keeping color and appearance under UV and weather. |
| Corian solid surface, Group 1 colors | Called good choices for exterior applications. |
How do you check one product for outdoor use?
Read three documents for the offered product, in order: the use statement, the warranty and the installation guide.
- Name the exact product range and color, not the material type.
- Find the maker’s written statement on outdoor use.
- Read the warranty for exterior or outdoor exclusions.
- Ask for the color-change figure and its basis.
- Read the installation guide for support, adhesive and gaps.
- Check that the warranty fits the project type.
Step six matters because the outdoor warranty on Caesarstone’s US site applies only to residences where the occupant is the owner, and excludes products used for commercial purposes.
What do the warranties say about outdoor use?

The warranty and supply documents used here treat exterior use differently, and tie cover to conditions. Terms belong to the named document as published; confirm the current text with the maker.
| Document | What it says |
|---|---|
| Cosentino North America letter of warranty: Silestone | Exposure on the exterior of buildings is listed as not covered. |
| Same letter: Dekton | Fading from direct UV, inside and outside buildings, is listed as covered. |
| Same letter: conditions | Fully valid only if registered within 6 months of purchase; faulty installation not covered. |
| Cambria supply terms | Its manufacturing-defect definition does not apply to product damaged by UV exposure or by outdoor or partially exposed outdoor installation. |
| Outdoor warranty on Caesarstone’s US site (Rev. 11/2020) | 10 years; owner-occupied residences; Caesarstone Certified fabricator; registration within 30 days. |
| Corian Exteriors bulletin (dated 7/18) | Cladding warranty covers sheets, not joint adhesive. |
The Caesarstone warranty also excludes flooring and cladding use, acts of nature and fabricators’ or installers’ work.
How is UV color change described?

The two makers whose figures were found for this guide give a color difference over a stated number of years. Caesarstone’s Outdoor Technical Guide marks its figure as an estimated value; Corian calls its groups projected.
| Product | Maker’s figure | Basis the maker gives |
|---|---|---|
| Caesarstone Outdoor | Up to 4 delta E may occur in 5 years of external use | Estimated value |
| Corian sheet, Group 1 | 5 ΔE*94 or less in 10 years | Projected; outdoor testing in Florida |
| Corian sheet, Group 2 | 5 to 15 ΔE*94 in 10 years | For use where some change is acceptable |
| Corian sheet, Group 3 | More than 15 ΔE*94 in 10 years | For use where greater change is acceptable |
| Corian Exteriors, Glacier White and Designer White | No more than 2 ΔEab in the first 10 years | Cladding warranty term; ASTM D2244 |
Corian says the change shows most in saturated, chromatic and dark colors and least in whites, lights and many earth tones. The figures above use different units and periods, so they do not compare line by line.
What do weathering test names mean?

A test name identifies a method of exposure or calculation, not a result. Corian names ASTM G155 and ASTM D2244, without edition years, and an outdoor site for its color groups. The notes below use the public scope pages of the editions ASTM lists as active.
ASTM G155-25
A practice for operating xenon arc lamp apparatus. Its published scope says that, on its own, it does not deliver a specific result. Its significance-and-use section says results may not be referred to without a report of the specific operating conditions.
ASTM D2244-25
A practice for calculating color differences from instrument readings. Its published scope has purchaser and seller agree the permissible tolerance.
Outdoor exposure
Corian says its color recommendations rest on testing outdoors in Florida; preliminary assessments of new colors use accelerated testing to ASTM G155.
What to ask for
Ask for these five items with any test claim:
- The practice and edition used
- The exposure conditions and duration
- The color and finish tested
- The color-difference unit reported
- Whether the figure is measured, projected or estimated
Does an outdoor-rated surface cover the whole vanity?

No maker document used here covers a whole vanity. Caesarstone’s guide for its Outdoor range sets its own rules for what sits under and beside the slab:
Support
Caesarstone asks for a full substrate of concrete, brick or cement board under Caesarstone Outdoor, and says not to use wood because it can swell outdoors.
Adhesives
For seams, Caesarstone names 100% silicone suitable for outdoor use or a named MS adhesive sealant. Acetone is forbidden on this range.
Gaps
Caesarstone’s guide shows a 3 mm (1/8 in) gap between the slab and a backsplash or back wall, and recommends a 5 mm (3/16 in) seam at inside corners around a grill or appliance cutout.
Care
Caesarstone says to cover the surface when not in use and not to leave metal objects on it, as they may cause rust stains.
These instructions are written for outdoor kitchen countertops; Caesarstone says the range is not suitable for flooring or wall cladding. For a vanity, treat the cabinet, adhesive, sealant and fittings as separate items that need their own written outdoor guidance.
Is a covered or sheltered area indoors?

Only one source used here addresses partial shelter: Cambria’s supply terms name partially exposed outdoor installations beside outdoor ones. The other sources do not mention covered or sheltered areas.
| Source | Where it draws the line |
|---|---|
| Cambria supply terms | Outdoor installation or partially exposed outdoor installation. |
| Cosentino letter: Silestone | Exposure on the exterior of buildings. |
| Cosentino letter: Dekton | UV fading cover applies inside and outside buildings. |
How should a buyer specify an outdoor vanity top?

Settle the use before the color. These steps are procurement guidance, not a durability assessment.
- Describe the location. Say where the top sits and what sun and weather reach it. Send photos or a sketch.
- Do not call it indoor. Do not assume a roof or a wall on one side makes a location indoor; ask the maker in writing.
- Name the range and color. Maker, range, color and finish, not “quartz”.
- Ask for the use statement. Request the maker’s written outdoor guidance for that range.
- Ask for the warranty text. Check exterior exclusions, project type and conditions.
- Ask for the installation guide. Check support, adhesive, gaps and care for the proposed assembly.
- Review the rest of the vanity. Cabinet, sealant and fittings need their own guidance.
If the indoor color is not supported
Ask for a range documented for the exposure and repeat the appearance review on its own sample. A color match does not carry outdoor guidance from one range to another.
What should you send and ask before a quotation?

A complete request states the exposure and asks for documents, not assurances.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which maker, range and color is offered? | Outdoor statements belong to named ranges. |
| What does its maker say about outdoor use? | Some named ranges are not approved or not recommended. |
| Does the warranty cover this location and project type? | Exterior use and commercial use can be excluded. |
| What color change is stated, and on what basis? | The figures found for this guide are an estimate, a projection and a warranty limit. |
| What support, adhesive and gaps are required? | One maker rules out wood under its outdoor range. |
| Which other vanity parts have outdoor guidance? | A surface document does not cover them. |
Include with your request
- Location, photos and a sketch of the exposure
- Sun, rain, frost and nearby heat sources
- Residential or commercial project
- The look wanted and acceptable color change
- Top size, cutouts and proposed support
WNS Global confirms any offered top, material range and commercial terms separately in writing. This guide does not state that WNS Global products are suitable for outdoor use, or have any UV rating, test result or warranty named above.
